Elliott holds a Guinness World Record for performing the first ever caesarean section in a tapir.

Sonya qualified from the University of Bristol in 2013 and began her career in exotic animal practice in 2015. She went on to lead a busy first opinion and referral exotics service, developing extensive clinical and surgical experience across a wide range of species. Sonya became an RCVS Recognised Advanced Practitioner in Zoological Medicine in 2018 and, in 2020, achieved certification as a WAVMA Certified Aquatic Species Veterinarian.
In 2020, she founded Just Exotics, an on-demand webinar platform driven by her passion for
teaching and supporting veterinary professionals in improving standards of care for exotic species.
Sonya enjoys all aspects of exotic animal medicine, with particular interests in reptiles, amphibians and fish. She has a strong interest in both soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, alongside a continued commitment to veterinary education and training.

Ian became a father for the first time in 2023 and, outside of work, he loves going on (wildlife-related) adventures, drawing, writing children's stories and following his favourite football team, Arsenal.

On her return Lauren started a position at Marwell Zoo where her interests include anaesthesia, sustainability and all things cat.
Lauren is currently a BDMLR Medic, a member of the BWRC Veterinary Liaison Working Group and is completing the new Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Nursing of Zoo and Wildlife via post graduate certificate route.

His passion for raising awareness of herpetological husbandry inspired him to host educational workshops since 2010, and he is currently pursuing his first publication in a peer reviewed journal. He continues to produce CPD webinars and regularly coaches veterinary students interested in the field. In 2025 he was announced as one of the veterinary professions ’30 Under Thirty’
Prior to veterinary, Josh undertook behavioural studies in Brazil’s Amazon Rainforest, and became an IUCN Red List Assessor in 2019. At University he served on the council of both the Zoological and Emergency societies, and is keen to bring his experience as a recent graduate to the BVZS Council.

Her academic and professional interests have focused on the unusual animals, writing peer reviewed care sheet for blue tongue skinks with the reptile working group and assisting with a research paper into the welfare of Madagascan hissing cockroaches in captivity. Her other focus is on applied parasitology, preventive medicine, and evidence-based health management in captive wildlife, particularly macropods. Catherine’s current research investigates the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites in commonly kept captive macropod species in UK zoological collections, integrating faecal diagnostics with routine management and treatment practices. Through her work, she aims to support welfare-centred, practical parasite surveillance strategies and contribute to region-specific best-practice guidance for captive wildlife health.
Catherine has been president of her university zoological and committee member of anatomy society as well as country rep for Wales EWDA student chapter and EAAV student events committee. She is hoping to bring her enthusiasm, and nurse focused skills to help in her role with the BVZS to serve its members and committee.
